Okay, I actually just saw the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” for the first time last Christmas. I know that it’s crazy, but I’m more of a “White Christmas” kind of girl. Give me singing and dancing any day!
Truth be told, I enjoyed it and it has joined the ranks of movies I will watch at least once every year.
I think what really struck me about the movie is that our human condition hasn’t changed since the times represented in this movie. Even with technology, mass consumerism and the greater wealth of our country, we as a people aren’t necessarily living better or happier lives. And the stress of our day-to-day lives is overwhelming most of us.
I took away from the film an urge to do more for others. I mean isn’t that the point both of the movie and this crazy holiday season? There are always ways to give back, share your talents and help someone in need. Big or small, help is always appreciated.
For me, being generous starts with being aware. Take notice of the folks around you. Really see there despair. Ask them how they are doing and listen to their answer. Then do what you can to help in some way. That is the true gift of this season and all year.
If you really want to experience the magical lesson of this story, I can’t think of a better way than live and on-stage at the Victoria Theatre. “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” starts tomorrow and will truly help you and your family ring in the wonder and spirit of this holiday season.
